1. Start by listening to the song at least three times without trying to play it
2. On the third time through the solo, try to “hum” along with the solo.
3. On the fourth time, begin to try to play through the solo on your instrument.
4. Begin to write down some of the notes on staff paper to help “guide” you through the solo.
5. Listen to one or two measures of the beginning of the solo. Play those two measures
back on your instrument.
6. Play the two measures along with the soloist’s recording.
7. Listen to the next two measures of the solo.
8. Play those two measures back on your instrument.
9. Play along with the soloist’s recording.
10. Now go back and listen to all four measures of the solo.
11. Play all four measures on your instrument.
12. Then play the four measures along with the soloist’s recording.
