Listen and Read

Listen to as many recordings of great improvisers that you can.  Often ideas on how to play better are “caught” rather than “taught.”  Listening helps open you ears to new ideas that you may not have thought about.  Read books on improvisation techniques and biographies on great improvisers.  Even though some books can get highly intellectual in the process of improvisation, sometimes you can get some great ideas to try in your practice time.
